Main research field: Chemistry
Sub research field: Organic synthesis/ Medicinal chemistry
Job summary: The Organic Synthesis group in collaboration with some members of the Chemical Synthesis and Natural Products division at Évora Chemistry Centre seeks a Researcher with vast experience in the area of organic synthesis of medicinally important molecules. The successful candidate will have 3 years of relevant post-doctoral experience and will initially be contracted for a period of 1 year renewable for up to 5 years with an annual salary of around 42533€.
Job description: Under the terms and conditions of the Ciência 2007 program of the Science and Technology Foundation (FCT) a specific call is open for applications for a post of Researcher in the Évora Chemistry Centre (CQE) of the University of Évora.
The general conditions of the program can be consulted at http://www.fct.mctes.pt/ciencia2007/indexEN.asp
The successful candidate will ideally have a PhD in Organic Chemistry or Medicinal Chemistry, or a closely related area with appropriate specialization. He or she should have 3 years of relevant post-doctoral experience in synthesis of medicinal or biologically active compounds, and ideally have practical experience in the use of solid phase organic synthesis and/or combinatorial synthesis to obtain these compounds. It is also desirable that the candidate have practical experience in applying computational molecular modeling techniques in the discovery of potential drug candidates. The initial contract will be for 1 year renewable for up to 5 years and the starting salary will be around 42533€.
The Researcher will answer directly to the senior member of the organic synthesis group of the Évora Chemistry Centre and will work in collaboration with nominated members of the Chemical Synthesis and Natural Products division of the CQE. In the event that the candidate has experience with computational molecular modeling techniques then an active collaboration is anticipated with members of the Thermodynamics and Theoretical Chemistry division. He or she will complement the research expertise that currently exists in the CQE helping to bridge the gap between organic synthesis and the discovery of medicinally relevant molecules.
Further details of the research interests of the Organic Synthesis group can be found at: http://www.cqe.uevora.pt/orgsyn/
Additional resources and facilities are currently being acquired for the use of this research group.
The Researcher will be expected to maintain a strong publishing record, arrange funding through both national and international grant projects or via relevant industrial collaborations, arrange collaborations with groups active in the area abroad and he/she may be required to lecture occasional short courses to students enrolled in Masters and Doctoral programs.
Applicants for the post should provide the following information:
a) Curriculum vitae.
b) The names, postal addresses and email addresses of 3 referees who the evaluation panel may contact if necessary.
c) The earliest date you will be able to start if selected.
d) Any other information you consider relevant.
You should use English throughout, but do not translate the titles of publications. The application should be sent by registered mail or by email to the following address ajb@dquim.uevora.pt with C2008-UE/CQE/OSMC in the subject line. In case of difficulty, place the files on a personal web page and send a link. Within 15 days of receiving the files, the proponents will send an email message confirming reception of the application.
The closing date for applications is September 30th 2008. If necessary the evaluation panel may ask short-listed candidates to provide additional information or to be interviewed via web or video conferencing.
